
Former South Africa national cricket team Quick Morne Morkel has been added to the coaching staff of the New Zealand national cricket team for the upcoming 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be the eighth edition of the competition. It is scheduled for February 10-26 in South Africa and Australia will compete as the defending champions.

Morne Morkel, 38, played for the South Africa National Cricket Team between 2006-2018. He represented the Proteas in 86 Tests, 117 ODIs and 44 T20Is. He was recently part of Team Namibia’s coaching staff in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Morkel will provide the White Ferns with local expertise, tempo bowling and general coaching during the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

“The women’s game is growing so fast around the world, and this is a great opportunity for me to gain experience in the women’s game and share my knowledge of international cricket to help this team get better,” Morkel told Stuff.

The 38-year-old said he has been following women’s cricket and the White Ferns closely for some time. He said:
“I have followed the women’s game and the White Ferns closely over the years, especially since moving to Australia and seeing their players who have played in the Women’s Big Bash.
“It’s a talented group of players and they have a very exciting bowling attack that I will be able to support. [Sawyer, the White Ferns’ head coach] of.”
Morne Morkel further expressed his excitement at the prospect of sharing his knowledge with the White Ferns World Cup squad. He said:
“[I] I’ve worked here a lot over the last year, so that’s important knowledge I can share with this group during the tournament.
“Playing in a World Cup is always exciting, so I look forward to sharing that experience with the group and helping them achieve their goals.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting the group when they arrive in South Africa and getting started.”
