TV personality Grant Denyer’s wife has been praised for her fearless response to finding a deadly brown snake in her family’s backyard.
The eastern brown snake is highly venomous and is responsible for about 60 percent of snakebite deaths in Australia.
Grant posted a video to Instagram on Monday of his wife Chezzi blasting the reptile with barbecue tongs while he and their three daughters, Sailor, Scout and Sunday, sheltered inside the home.

The footage shows a quick-thinking Chezzi grabbing a broom and tongs, then confronting the snake, which got uncomfortably close to the family’s dog, outside their back door.
“When Mr. Brown comes to visit, trust the chick who had snakes as a kid to take care of it,” a proud Grant captioned the image on Instagram.
In the video, Grant could be heard yelling in the background, “See it, Chez? It’s for the stairs.’

“Just a mom trying to cook in time when the kids see a big snake coming at the dog,” Chezzi replied calmly.
The snake eventually retreated to the paddock and Chezzi returned inside to serve dinner for her family.
The Deniers’ famous friends praised the mother-of-three for her reaction to the snake.

The Morning Show host Larry Emdur commented, “Bro, first of all, I love how you scream for Chezzi (what a brave husband and protective father you are).”
“Mommy is so brave… I love you mom!” added Lisa Wilkinson.

How to treat a brown snake bite

1. Call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.
2. Check for danger – move away from the snake and/or keep a bitten person away from the snake.
3. Lay the patient down and ask him to remain still. Reassure the patient.
3. On a limb, apply an elastic roller bandage (10-15 cm wide) over the bite site as soon as possible.
4. Apply another elastic bandage (10-15 cm wide), starting just above the fingers or toes and moving up the bitten limb as far as possible. Apply the bandage to the limb as firmly as possible. You should not be able to easily slide a finger between the bandage and the skin.
5. Immobilize the bandaged limb using splints.
6. Record the time of the bite and when the bandage was applied. If possible, mark the location of the bite site (if known) on the skin with a pen or photograph the site. Do not wash venom off skin or clothing as this may make identification easier.
7. Stay with the patient until medical help arrives.
