Ginni Thomas, a conservative activist and the wife of Judge Clarence Thomas, appeared to have been acquitted in the U.S. Supreme Court’s investigation into who leaked the draft opinion of the Dobbs decision last year.
“During the course of the investigation, I spoke with each of the judges, several times on different occasions. The judges actively participated in this iterative process, asking questions and answering mine. I followed all credible leads, with none of the judges or their spouses,” Gail Curley, marshal of the U.S. Supreme Court, said in a statement Friday.
“Based on this, I did not believe it was necessary to ask the judges to sign affidavits,” Curley added.
Curley’s comments came after some Twitter users expressed doubt on Thursday about whether or not the judges in the investigation should investigate who is responsible for leaking the draft opinion.

SCOTUS said Thursday its investigation was unable to identify who leaked the draft opinion, but this finding has sparked criticism over whether or not to interview the judges on the bench.
The Supreme Court released an unsigned statement concluding that it was unable to identify the person responsible for the leak or explain how Politics ended up with the design.
The publication reported in May that in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organizationthe Supreme Court was willing to overturn the landmark 1973 ruling Roe against Wade— a report corroborated by a draft opinion from Judge Samuel Alito that the outlet has published.
The leak sparked massive protests across the country and threats against the judges, but the Supreme Court ruled in June to Roe against Wadeending the federal right to abortion.
Social media users on Thursday cast doubt on the court’s conclusion Thursday that they couldn’t find who leaked the draft opinion, including web developer Matt Ortega who hinted that it was Judge Thomas who may have been the person behind the leak.
“Probably the one whose wife is a paid activist for right-wing interests, talks to her husband about it and played a role in an attempted coup.” said Ortegareferring to Ginni, who tried to help former President Donald Trump reverse the results of the 2020 election.
Meanwhile, journalist Sydney Bauer tweeted on Thursday “they certainly didn’t question the judiciary who leaked this.”
“Put alito and [Justice Clarence] Put Thomas under a lie detector and see how quickly they get to the bottom of this’ another user wrote.
Attorney Michael Chertoff, a former Secretary of Homeland Security, was consulted by the court to review the investigation and following his “thorough” review, Chertoff said the court said he could not determine any additional investigative measures that could have been taken in this investigation.
