It’s a common refrain for golf fans watching their favorite sport on TV: too many commercials during critical times of weekend coverage.
Well, thanks to a deal with Callaway, the final hour of Sunday’s Sentry Tournament of Champions broadcast on the Golf Channel will be ad-free.
Sports Business Journal was the first to report the news; Golf week has since confirmed the message.
The Sentry Tournament of Champions will be broadcast all four days on streaming services ESPN+ and Peacock and on TV on the Golf Channel and on Saturdays and Sundays on NBC.
However, the typical transfer from cable to network TV has reversed this week. Usually it’s the Golf Channel with the first portion of coverage before things transfer to wireless coverage on NBC or TBEN.
For the Sentry, NBC has TV coverage for the first two hours of the weekend from 4 to 6 p.m. ET, while Golf Channel brings it home from 6 to 8 p.m. The final hour is ad-free on TV and on the Peacock stream.
Sports Business Journal reports that there may be more ad-free coverage of the PGA Tour on Sunday, with NBC lead producer Tommy Roy telling the publication, “When we can have ad-free golf, we will. To get it here at the first designated event, to get it on Sunday, we’re very happy.
