
On Friday, in Chattogram’s first Test match between India and Bangladesh, Cheteshwar Pujara scored his first Test century in 1443 days. En route to a 19th test match hundred, Pujara hit 13 fours. Pujara raced to manage the hundred in the latter stages of its stay as the Indian side looked to declare its second innings with a lead of almost 500.
This was Pujara’s fastest Test hundred after 130 deliveries. His second 50 runs came in 43 balls, while his first 50 runs required 87 deliveries. When skipper KL Rahul finished the innings with a lead of 512 runs, the 34-year-old was still unbeaten with 102 runs. On the other hand, Virat Kohli hit 19 runs on 29 pitches.

When Cheteshwar Pujara reached 90 in the first innings of the Chattogram test, he came very close to ending the dry spell. However, a stunning throw from left arm spinner Taijul Islam on 90 brought him down.

Meanwhile, in celebration of his historic achievement, Pujara denied his batting partner Virat Kohli a hug as the Saurashtra batsman kept his eyes on the ball as it reached the boundary ropes. However, he later realized his mistake and hugged the former Indian skipper while thanking his teammates in the locker room.
Virat Kohli scored just 19 runs during Pujara and Kohli’s quick third wicket partnership, putting them together for a 75-run partnership.

Century for Cheteshwar Pujara in test cricket after almost 4 years
Pujara last reached a century in this format against Australia in Sydney in January 2019. His last Test appearance was in the Fifth Test against England in Birmingham which was postponed to July. In the game he had scores of 13 and 66.
Pujara made his Test squad comeback in the Birmingham fixture after being benched for the two-match series against Sri Lanka in March due to a drop in performance.
Pujara, on his comeback, enjoyed a fruitful season in the County Championship Division Two in 2022, scoring eight hundred for Sussex in all forms, including three doubles. He averaged 1094 runs at 109.4 over the course of 13 innings for Sussex in the Championship.
