Former India National Cricket Team batsman Robin Uthappa has criticized India for making constant changes in the team and said such a move does not convey a positive message to the young players.
Left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav put in a sensational Player of the Match performance in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh last month, but was dropped from the playing XI in the following match.

Kuldeep Yadav, who played Test cricket for India after 22 long months, took a 5 wicket haul (5/40) in the first innings and a 3 wicket haul (3/73) in the second innings. Also, with the bat in the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav scored 40 and had a brilliant 87 run partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin.
Robin Uthappa cited Kuldeep Yadav’s example as saying that players don’t feel safe in a team environment where there is constant change.

“Kuldeep was ‘Player of the Match’ in the first Test against Bangladesh and he was out of the team for the next match; it does not send (send) a good message,” Uthappa told PTI in an interview.
“Yes, you can explain things to Kuldeep once, but this sends (sends) a wrong message to the young players that even after you get the ‘Player of the match’, your place in the team is not certain,” added he to it.
“I think in the team. There have been constant changes in the team for a long time, when a player does not feel safe, he always keeps the mentality to save his place in the team.
“I think it’s important to give the players a sense of security” – Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa further said that it is very crucial to give the players a sense of security, which has not happened in a long time in the Indian team.
He stressed that the two most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) – Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – believe in fewer changes in the squad.
“I think it’s important to give the players a sense of security. What we see is that there have been too many changes going on in recent years. And in crucial matches, their performance drops because they are not sure of their place in (the) team for the next match.
“If you look at IPL, usually such teams have won the titles that made less changes to the playing XI. The success of Chennai (Super Kings) and Mumbai (Indians) also proves this,” said Uthappa.
