Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings were engaged in an intense bidding war to acquire Curran’s services. Finally, Punjab Kings, who entered the auction with the second highest purse of INR 32.2 crore, outbid everyone to acquire Sam Curran for INR 18.50 crore.
Speaking to Star Sports, Sam Curran said he is “incredibly excited” to travel to India for next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Punjab is where I did my debut season a few years ago… It will be very different, but I know the stadium in Mohali quite well, and our teammates will definitely help me… Incredibly excited to come to India for this likely.”
Sam Curran was bought by PBKS in 2019 for INR 7.2 crore but was released after just one season, allowing Chennai Super Kings to pick him ahead of IPL 2020 for INR 5.50 crore.
I sat with my girlfriend and her dad to watch it – Sam Curran at IPL 2023 mini auction
Sam Curran further revealed that he was watching the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) mini auction with his girlfriend and her father. The all-rounder also said he was pleased his last franchise, CSK, had bid for him.
“There are so many things going through my mind. At 9am this morning I was struggling to find a stream, it [the auction] was not on TV in England. I sat with my girlfriend and her father to watch it. I actually turned my phone off because I thought I was behind and didn’t want to see congratulatory messages. I saw the bids coming from Mumbai then Chennai, having played for Chennai before it was cool to see them [bidding],” he said.
Curran broke the record of Chris Morris (INR 16.25) crore to become the most expensive purchase in an IPL auction. He has also become the most expensive player in the history of the IPL and has even overtaken the retained players – Virat Kohli and KL Rahul (INR 17 crore).
