Pakistan, which has the hosting rights for the 2023 Asia Cup, is finding it difficult to hold the event. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah had made it clear in 2022 that they would not be traveling to Pakistan and wanted the tournament to be held at a neutral venue. Former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had even threatened to withdraw from the 2023 World Cup in India.
PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said the decision was made unilaterally. A meeting is scheduled with ACC members in Bahrain on February 4 (Saturday) where a final decision will be made. Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup in 2008 where Sri Lanka had beaten India in the final

Crucial meeting for PCB
PCB has been awarded the hosting rights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, if this Asia Cup 2023 is snatched from them it would raise questions about their 2025 CT. Talks are underway for PCB to get the rights, but the tournament would be hosted in the UAE or Qatar, as Qatar has expressed interest. We all witnessed how the UAE hosted the Asia Cup 2022 where Sri Lanka held the rights.
It seems unlikely that the tournament will take place in Pakistan as Jay Shah has said that the decision to travel to Pakistan is a matter for the entire government.’ We all know that the two nations do not have healthy relations. It would be interesting to see how the gathering unfolds where Pakistani fans hope to see a multi-country event in September.
