BCCI recently announced that both the men’s and women’s cricket teams will be paid equally. This move has received a lot of response from the fans and cricketers as BCCI is now the second board to implement it after New Zealand. Former skipper Mithali Raj was delighted with this decision.
Previously, the pay structure for the women’s team was INR 2.5 Lakhs for a test, 1 Lakh for ODI and 1 Lakh for T20I. Now the team would be paid equal to men with INR 15 Lakhs for a test, 6 Lakhs for an ODI and 3 Lakhs for a T20I. It is not wrong to say that this is a huge step BCCI has taken.
Mithali Raj on pay structure
Mithali Raj interacted with Cricbuzz and was asked about the move. “I think it’s a historic move. This has been discussed for a long time. And I think it comes at the right time. (Because) If we focus on women’s cricket coming to a stage where men’s cricket is today, this decision will take us a long way there. It’s in that direction. It will have a huge impact.” said Mithali Raj.

Great opportunity for India
The Women’s IPL is all set to launch in 2023, where all young people will have the opportunity to show their credentials. India has failed at the crucial crossroads of the competition as this competition would be of great importance for the upcoming ICC tournaments.

Former skipper Mithali Raj is expected to participate in the inaugural Women’s IPL as her experience would be invaluable in guiding the players. It would be interesting to see how the league fares as expected to lighten Women’s Cricket in India.
