PSL 2023: “I have not kept hope from anyone”: Umar Akmal’s blunt remark on Brother Kamran Akmal’s appointment as PCB selector

Umar Akmal had a rather blunt remark when asked about the appointment of his brother Kamran Akmal to the PCB selection committee.

Akmal, a wicket-keeper and batsman from Pakistan, will be playing for the Quetta Gladiators in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League.

Akmal has lost the confidence of the Pakistan team since his last international participation in 2019. The 32-year-old Pakistani star has resumed domestic cricket after being suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2020 for failing to report a determination plot.

Kamran Akmal was nominated earlier this week to head the junior selection committee, which will oversee the U13, U16 and U19 trials. According to The Bharat Express News, Kamran is a member of the national selection committee for senior men in Pakistan.

“I will continue the hard work”: Umar Akmal

Due to the PSL preparations, Umar Akmal was asked if he felt his chances of joining the Pakistan team had increased. He had previously complained that he had been unfairly banned by the regional cricket board for a breach of its code of conduct

Hafiz Muhammad Imran, a Pakistani journalist, stated that Raza Ali Dar, Umar’s captain during Pakistan’s domestic season, was requested not to play the wicketkeeper batter for an unspecified reason.

Umar Akmal reiterated that he does not put hope in anyone and that he will continue to work hard and leave the results in God’s hands.

“I didn’t keep hope from anyone, I just prayed to God and kept working hard at my cricket. God willing, the road ahead will be easy.” said Umar Akmal junior in an interview with Geo Super.

Umar Akmal has played 16 Tests, 121 ODIs and 84 T20Is so far. He has not taken the field in a game of cricket this year having last played for North Pakistan in the Pakistan Cup.
