“World Cup is more important than anything else” – Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur from India not worried about WPL auction

The 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup kicks off on February 10. This edition is considered a fascinating one as all teams are evenly matched. This is South Africa’s first time hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup where we can see competitive wickets.

The Women in Blue would like to win their first T20 World Cup, last being outclassed by Australia in the final in 2020. India is placed in a precarious group of England, Ireland, West Indies and Pakistan. Their campaign kicks off on February 12 against Pakistan while WPL Auction is scheduled for February 13.

Harmanpreet Kaur was seen at the captain’s press conference being asked about WPL Auction.

“We have a very crucial game for the auction and we are just going to focus on that. The World Cup is more important than anything. Our focus is on ICC Trophy. These things will keep coming, and as a player you know what’s important to you and how to keep your focus. We are all mature enough and know that is important to us.” Harmanpreet Kaur said.

“It really is a big day for all of us because we have been waiting for years and years now. The next two or three months are very important for women’s cricket. We’ve seen how WBBL and the Hundred have helped their countries improve their cricket. Hopefully the same will happen for our country.” she added.

The Women in Blue lost the Tri Series in South Africa with the West Indies and South Africa, where India lost to hosts South Africa. The team doesn’t seem to have a reliable finisher present at the end of the innings, which hurts the team.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is said to be aware of the fact that they cannot take Pakistan lightly despite having the forest over them. Dynamic batsman Shafali Verma needs to hit long and effective shots as her U-19 experience would be invaluable.
