WPL 202: Dane van Niekerk likely to get NOC from upcoming tournament Cricket South Africa
Cricket South Africa is considering granting Dane van Niekerk a Certificate of No Objection (NOC) to take part in the Women’s T20 Challenge after being picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Despite not meeting the minimum fitness requirements, it is unlikely that CSA will stand in her way and will instead use the WPL to facilitate her return to the national team. A final decision on the NOC will be made after a meeting with CSA’s Cricket Director Enoch Nkwe and the CSA medical team.

Despite the policy of only awarding NOCs to players who meet the minimum fitness requirements, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is unlikely to stand in the way of Dané van Niekerk and instead use the Women’s T20 Challenge to promote her return to the national team.

The decision could spark controversy, as last year CSA threatened to deny a NOC to Lizelle Lee for not meeting their weight requirement. Lee chose to move away from international cricket and has since moved to Australia.
She was not called up to the Women’s T20 Challenge auction on Monday. A final decision on Van Niekerk’s NOC will be made following a meeting with CSA’s director of cricket and medical team.

Dané van Niekerk, who was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s T20 Challenge, is a centrally contracted player for South Africa, and there were concerns she could leave the national team if her WPL deal proved more lucrative.
However, her WPL deal of around US$37,000 is comparable in value to her CSA contract. Nevertheless, she is expected to earn more than double her CSA contract amount from endorsements and match fees. On the other hand, van Niekerk’s wife, Marizanne Kapp, was bought for US$183,000, which is worth more than R3.2 million, making her deal significantly more than any domestic contract.
