The YouTube mobile app on iOS devices is currently unavailable for some users. The crashes began Wednesday afternoon when thousands of iOS users reported that the app would close shortly after opening.
Users also reported seeing a message in the app that read, “A serious error has occurred.”
TBEN attempted to replicate the issue and encountered similar issues. We opened the YouTube app itself and found that after playing a video for 30 seconds, the app would close. We then reopened the app and resumed the video without any issues.
youtube, in a tweet, said it is aware of the crash and is working on a fix.
The company first acknowledged the issue on Wednesday at 2:19 PM ET and the issues appear to be ongoing at the time of writing.
As of 4:23 PM ET, YouTube responded to a Twitter user’s comment with “thank you” after YouTube directly told them a fix was in the works. It hasn’t posted anything yet about what caused the problem or when it expects to fix it.
We’ll update this with more details as they come in.
